About This Program
Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is not optional charity. It is an obligation, and it belongs to the poor. At Care & Share Foundation NJ, we take the responsibility of collecting and distributing Zakat with the seriousness it deserves.
When you entrust your Zakat to us, you can be confident it will reach the right people. We keep Zakat funds in a dedicated separate account, verify every recipient against Islamic eligibility criteria, and disburse directly to individuals and families with zero administrative deductions.

How We Handle Your Zakat
As trustees of this Amanah, we strive to distribute every Zakat donation with fairness, transparency, accountability, and in accordance with the guidance of the Quran and Sunnah. Below is each Islamic condition governing Zakat disbursement and exactly how we comply with it.
Recipient must fall within one of the eight Quranic categories
Our Foundation primarily serves Al-Fuqara (the poor) and Al-Masakin (the needy), which are the two most common categories applicable within our local community.
Recipient must be genuinely in financial hardship
Every application is reviewed to verify financial need before assistance is approved. We do not distribute Zakat without a proper review process.
Recipient must be Muslim
Our Zakat Program serves eligible Muslim applicants in accordance with the opinion of the overwhelming majority of scholars.
Wealthy individuals cannot receive Zakat
We only provide Zakat assistance to applicants who meet the Islamic criteria for financial hardship. No one above the Nisab threshold receives Zakat from us.
Parents, children, spouse, or dependents of the donor cannot receive that donor's Zakat
None of the recipients are individuals whom the Foundation's management is financially responsible to support. There is no overlap between those who manage this program and those who benefit from it.
Zakat must become the property of the eligible recipient
Assistance is provided directly to eligible families in the form of groceries, rent, utilities, medical aid, funeral assistance, or emergency financial aid. Zakat is not pooled into general funds.
Recipient must receive direct ownership and benefit
All assistance is provided directly for the benefit of the approved applicant or family. We do not distribute through intermediaries who may not pass the full amount on.
Priority should be given to deserving recipients within the local community
Our Foundation serves eligible Muslim families throughout Central New Jersey, where we can verify need, maintain accountability, and ensure timely delivery.
Recipients must be treated with dignity and confidentiality
We maintain strict confidentiality throughout the application and review process to protect every applicant's privacy and honor.
Zakat funds must be distributed responsibly and in accordance with Islamic principles
We maintain separate accounting records for Zakat funds and use them exclusively for eligible recipients. We do not use Zakat donations for our general operating expenses. Our administrative expenses are zero.
